24 Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery went to France in September, 1914 as part of 6th Division and spent the rest of the war on the Western Front. On 28th January 1915, 24 Brigade was operating near Chapelle-d'Armentieres where the enemy guns were equally as active as their own and that afternoon 5 shells fell in the billets of the ammunition column, killing William Allen and wounding 3 other men. |
