HMS Albion was a pre-dreadnought battleship built in the late 19th century and on leaving England in September, 1914 went via Gibraltar and St Vincent to Simons Town in South Africa, arriving there in the middle of November, 1914. The ship left South Africa on 11th January and reached the Dardanelles in mid February, 1915, to take part in the Gallipoli campaign. S M Cooper died from unspecified causes on 26th May, 1915 and as he is buried in a cemetery in Simons Town, he presumably left the ship while it was there but as yet there is no further information concerning his death.
