Motor Machine Gun Units, using both armoured cars and motor bikes  were developed during the early days of the First World War but with the onset of static trench warfare by the end of 1914, their usefulness were very limited and from then on they operated largely as conventional machine-gun units until the stalemate of trench warfare came to an end in 1918. They had a greater role in Egypt, Palestine, East Africa and Mesopotamia where the mobility of the units was of great value and they saw considerable action in these theatres.

Leslie Wareham died from wounds on 28th June, 1915 but as yet there is no information as to where and on what date he was wounded.
