On 20th January, 1915, the 1st Royal Fusiliers battalion of 17 Brigade, 6th Division, moved into the trenches near Chapelle d’Armentières between the Lille to Boulogne road and the Lille to Armentières railway, where they remained until relieved on 24th January. The biggest danger here came from snipers and on 20th January two men from battalion, one of whom was James Clarke, were killed. |
