Frederick Sheppard died from unspecified causes on 26th October, while in France. He was serving with the 4th Royal Fusiliers battalion of 9 Brigade, 3rd Division that had arrived in France at the beginning of the war. The location of the cemetery in which he is buried suggests that he may have been a prisoner of war at the time and although the majority of records show his date of death as 26th October, 1914, the Graves Registration Report Form show it as 24th November, 1914.
