Frederick Western, who died from unspecified causes on 6th April, 1917 is buried in a cemetery which at that time was a few miles behind the front line, in German held territory. This suggests that he was probably a prisoner of war. At the beginning of April, 1917, the 13th London battalion of 168 Brigade, 56th Division  were arriving in Arras prior to their involvement in the Battle of Arras which began on 9th April. However, the  Graves Registration Report Form recorded that at the time of his death Frederick Western was attached to the 10th Royal Dublin Fusiliers battalion which was part of 190 Brigade, 63rd Division which at the beginning of 1917 were involvrd in operations on the River Ancre.
