Ernest Clayton died from wounds on 23rd September, 1914, after having been brought back to the United Kingdom but as yet, there is no information, as to when and where he was wounded. The 2nd Manchester battalion was part of 14 Brigade, 5th Division, that had arrived in France in August at the beginning of the war and had been involved in the fighting since that date, including the Battle of the Aisne in September 1914. |
