Edward Hodder died from wounds on 14th November, 1914, while a prisoner of war but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded or captured. The 1st Royal West Surrey (Queens) battalion was part of 3 Brigade, 1st Division that had arrived in France at the beginning of the war and had been in much of the action since that date, including the desperate fighting associated wit the First Battle of Ypres in October and November, 1914 |
