On 21st December, 1914, after nearly a month resting at Hazebrouck, the 1st Northamptonshire battalion of 2 Brigade, 1st Division, marched to Le Touret which they reached at 4pm. Here they were ordered to attack and recover some trenches, about half a mile east of L’Epinette, that had been lost the previous day. At 7pm the 1st Northamptonshire and 1st Loyal North Lancashire battalions moved forward and by 10pm the objective had been secured. Among the casualties sustained by 1st Northamptonshire was Frederick Dickens. |
