On 12th December, 1914 the 2nd Rifle Brigade battalion of 25 Brigade, 8th Division moved into the front line trenches at Fauquissart near Laventie in France. On 17th December, the day on which Charles Denton was killed, the battalion’s trenches on the left of their front were shelled in the morning and a patrol went out and found that the enemy advanced trench was unoccupied. |
