At the end of January, 1916, 20th Division moved into the Ypres salient where they were to remain until May of that year. On 22nd February the 11th Rifle Brigade of 59 Brigade moved into the front line on the Canal Bank, occupying Forward Cottage, McGregor Post and Tower Post. On 25th February the British artillery opened up an intense bombardment of the enemy positions opposite them to which the German guns retaliated with equal ferocity. Stuck in the middle the infantry suffered a number of casualties one of whom was Arthur Horton. |
