On 16th March, 1916, 7th London of 140 Brigade, 47th Division moved to Villers-au-Bois, near Souchez, just to the north of Arras. Here they were billeted in huts and at night provided working parties to assist the engineers in the front line Cabaret Rouge. On 17th March, 3 men were killed whilst engaged on this activity, probably as a result of shell fire. One of these men was Thomas Johnson. |
