On 2nd April, 1916, 19th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division moved into the front line at Carency, just to the north of Arras. The Battalion Diary records that 7th April was a battalion “strafe” day with artillery, trench mortars, Lewis guns and anything else they could muster, being used against the enemy. Obviously this would have resulted in retaliation by the Germans, during the course of which 2 men from 19th London were killed, one of them being Arthur Hall. |
