Current Information:Born-Canning Town Loos British Cemetery, France On 26th May, 1916, 8th Royal Berkshire of 1 Brigade, 1st Division moved into the front line near Bully-le-Mines in France. At 10.30pm on the next day, 27th May, after a short but sharp bombardment, the enemy attempted to raid the trenches held by 8th Royal Berkshire. Unfortunately, at the same time, a wiring party under Second Lieutenant Klemantaski was out in front of the trenches, repairing the wire. This party of men, with the help of fire from those in the trenches managed to disrupt the raid but in so doing sustained a number of casualties themselves. Twelve men, including Second Lieutenant Klemantaski were killed and a further sixteen were wounded. Among those killed was George Wiskin. |
