Current Information:

On 13th October, 1915, 9th Royal Fusiliers of 36 Brigade, 12th Division moved forward to the reserve line opposite the Quarries on the Loos battlefield as 36 Brigade relieved 37 Brigade. The battalions of 37 Brigade had just been involved in the last action of the Battle of Loos and this sector was still under heavy German artillery fire as 9th Royal Fusiliers were about to find out.  From 14th October through to 17th October the enemy shelled these trenches held by 9th Royal Fusiliers throughout the day but at least the nights were relatively quiet. This shelling continued on the 18th October when 9th Royal Fusiliers relieved 5th Royal Berkshire in the front line. The bombers of 9th Royal Fusiliers then supported an attack by the Guards in the late afternoon. The 19th October saw a counter attack by the enemy against the line which was now held by 9th Royal Fusiliers and 9th Essex of 35 Brigade, an attack that the two battalions were able to repel. On the following day,  21st October, 9th Royal Fusiliers once again had to endure an artillery pounding but in the evening they were relieved and moved back to billets at Fouquereuil.
