On 27th June, 1915, the 2nd Royal Irish Fusiliers battalion of 82 Brigade, 27th Division, moved into trenches near Houplines, just to the east of Armentières where they remained until relieved on 5th July when they moved back into support positions. George Bland died from wounds on 9th July, after having been sent to a base hospital on the coast and it is likely that he was wounded during this period spent in the trenches. |
