Current Information:Age-20 Born-Walthamstow Potijze Burial Ground Cemetery, Belgium
On 11th July, 1915, the 3rd Rifle Brigade of 17 Brigade, 6th Division moved into the front line to the north-east of Ypres where they remained until relieved on 19th July. The battalion diary provides little information about this period spent in the front line so the circumstances of the death of Leonard Cox who was killed on 12th July, are not known. The attrition rate among British soldiers on the Western Front was on average 300 each day and when not involved in an actual battle it was either shell fire or a sniper’s bullet that caused most deaths and injuries. |
