On 18th June, 1915, the 1st East Kent (Buffs) battalion of 16 Brigade, 6th Division, moved into trenches in the eastern part of the Ypres salient where they remained until relieved on 3rd July. On 22nd June the unit on their right attacked the enemy’s trench and in the artillery retaliation that followed this, four men from the battalion were killed, including Samuel Bowden. |
