On 29th December 1914, the day on which Frederick Randall was killed, the 1st East Surrey battalion of 14 Brigade, 5th Division, moved into the line at Wulverghem, just south of the Ypres salient. During 30th December they worked hard at draining their water-logged trenches and although there was little hostile fire, 3 men were killed and another 7 wounded. |
