On 1st May, 1915, the 16th London battalion, then of 18 Brigade, 6th Division were relieved from the line north of the River Lys and moved back to billets at Houplines. On 3rd May a mine was blown at Frelighien and the enemy retaliated by shelling Houplines from 11am-2pm causing several casualties including Sydney Edwards who was killed. |
