On 9th July, 1915, the 1st Bedfordshire battalion of 15 Brigade, 5th Division, moved into the front line at Hill 60 in the southern part of the Ypres salient where they remained until relieved on 12th July. On 11th July the enemy blew a mine near their trenches creating a very large crater and followed this up with an artillery bombardment. The battalion sustained over 40 casualties during the course of the day including Frederick Baker who was killed. |
