During the night of 20th/21st July, 1917, the 22nd London battalion of 142 Brigade, 47th Division moved into the front line in the southern part of the Ypres salient. On 24th July, they were subjected to some heavy shelling throughout the day which resulted in the death of John Hawkins. |
