According to records, including those of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, John Arthy was killed on 16th May, 1915. However on this date the 2nd Royal Lancaster battalion of 83 Brigade, 28th Division, were in billets near Steenvorde, a number of miles from the front line, after the battalion had been relieved having suffered heavy losses during the Battle of Frezenberg Ridge. It could be that he was temporarily serving with another unit at this time or that the date of his death was incorrectly recorded. |
