On 21st March, 1918, HMS Botha, a Royal Navy destroyer, was part of a task force that engaged a German flotilla off the Belgian coast. HMS Botha engaged and rammed an enemy torpedo boat but was then torpedoed by a French destroyer which mistook it for as German ship. Considerable damage was done by the torpedo explosion and 13 members of the crew were killed, including J R Finlay. |
