On 16th May, 1915, the 1st Rifle Brigade battalion of 11 Brigade, 4th Division moved back to trenches near Wieltje where they had been involved in heavy fighting a few days earlier during the Battle of Frezenberg Ridge. Things had quietened down by now although the danger of shell and sniper fire still remained, and much of their time here was spent strengthening the somewhat battered trenches. They were relieved on 21st May and went back to billets at Elverdinghe. Harry Rooke was killed on 20th May but the battalion diary provides no further information concerning his death.
