James Piggott died from unspecified causes on 18th February, 1915, while serving in France  It is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front. During February, 1915, the 1st Middlesex battalion of 19 Brigade, then with 6th Division, were holding the line near Armentières in France.
