On 26th April, 1915, the 1st Royal Fusiliers battalion of 17 Brigade, 6th Division, moved into the trenches near Chapelle d’Armentières between the Lille to Boulogne road and the Lille to Armentières railway where they remained until 2nd May. Horace Aldridge died on 5th May but the battalion diary provides no information concerning his death which could have been from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front.
