Current Information:
Age-25 Enlisted-Camberwell St. Sever Cemetery, Rouen, France
On 6th June, 1915, the 21st London battalion of 142 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the trenches at South Maroc near Loos where they remained until relieved on 18th June. Arthur Hyde died from wounds on 12th June after having been sent to a base hospital in Rouen but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded and the battalion diary provides no further information about his death. The attrition rate among British soldiers on the Western Front was on average 300 each day and 60% of these were as a result of shellfire. When not involved in an actual battle it was either shell fire or a sniper’s bullet that caused most deaths and injuries. |
