On 6th January, 1916, 17th London (Poplar & Stepney Rifles), of 141 Brigade, 47th Division were relieved from the front line at Loos in France and moved back into support with 2 companies at North Maroc and 2 companies in Loos itself. On 7th January, Loos was the target of the enemy heavy artillery and 7 men were killed, including William Tallack, when a shell entered and burst in a cellar where they were sheltering. |
