On 31st January, 1915 the 2nd York & Lancaster battalion of 16 Brigade, 6th Division moved into trenches at Chapelle d’Armentiéres where they remained until relieved on 7th February. On 1st February, the day on which Montague Jackson was killed, there was little enemy sniping during the day but this increased at night. The trenches held by A and B Companies were shelled and two dugouts were destroyed. |
