Nieuwkerke (Neuve-Eglise) Churchyard

During December, 1914, 1st Cornwall Light Infantry, 14 Brigade, 5th Division were in the sector facing La Petite Douve Farm. Heavy rain had made trenches awful with the German lines 130 yards away and on a small rise, the water flowed down from there into the British trenches. Shell fire and snipers accounted for the casualties. Private Breed died of wounds on this day but as yet we have no information as to when and where he was wounded.
