Current Information:Age-28 25, Deronda Road, Herne Hill La Brique Military Cemetery2, Belgium 16th London (Queen’s Westminster Rifles) were at this stage of the war, part of 18 Brigade, 6th Division and in September, 1915 they were in the line in the Ypres salient in some very wet and muddy conditions. On 16th September, they moved up to Brielen in Brigade reserve where they were subjected to some heavy high explosive and gas shelling. On 21st September, one company moved to the Potijze defences whilst another went into the Kaaie defences where the heavy shelling continued and it is most probable that this was the cause of the death of Sergeant Finlayson on 23rd September, 1915. |
